Ho-Down Picnic Shorts

I decided on the shorts for my sewing class. I figured I wanted to learn some new skills that come with that. I used the pattern that I posted earlier. I think these will be fun to wear to a festival like Gilroy Garlic Festival or something like that. There is no zipper, but there are buttons on each side.

I made something with sleeves

It's been awhile. I have been busy, but I have made two things in the last few weeks. I recently went down to San Diego for my good friend Lisa's wedding. I had the dress, but I wanted a bolero to wear just in case I got cold. I used the pattern above. I picked a fabric at the store and sewed the bolero. I went to try it on with my dress and it was ugly!!!! The fabric was so wrong. Bert came up with the idea to use that one as the lining. So I bought a much better fabric that went great with the dress. So I made another one, but the tricky part is the sleeves and how to add the lining to the jacket. I had my class 2 weeks ago so I took it in and the instructor helped me line the jacket. She said that it is not intuative. Thanks Alicia! I am very excited because everything I have made does not have sleeves and now I know how to fully line a jacket. It fit me well.
Long story short I never wore it! :) Pictures of me above at the wedding not wearing it. I was the person to have people sign the guestbook and take the gifts. (Miranda) The wedding was beautiful and fun!

Vintage A-Line skirt with Julianne's fabric

I made this skirt this last week. I used a great book from the library on making skirts. It had formulas in it to figure out your measurements to make a pattern. I actually made my own pattern out of paper bags. This skirt is A-line with a side zipper. I used fabric from Bert's sister-in law Julianne. The great thing is that now I have the pattern and can make a skirt from it any time.
Thanks again Julianne for the fabric!

Help I can't decide! Shorts vs. Dress

Dress

(The green one in the left corner with the fabric above)
VS.
Shorts
(I would use a different fabric, probally a pale yellow)

I am taking a sewing summer camp class next week and I can't decide what I should make. Please vote on which one you like better by leaving a comment. I want to pick something to make so that I can learn more techniques. Thanks

Pillowcase Skirt

My 2ND year in college I had the most sweet and creative roommate. One of the things she made and sold were pillowcase skirts. She used the prettiest vintage looking pillowcases so the skirts were beautiful.
I made this skirt awhile ago and wore it yesterday so I figured I would post it. I bought a pillowcase at a thrift store and turned it into a skirt. It is very easy since most of it is already sown. I dedicate my skirt to my roommate.
Above are the instructions on how to make it and pictures of mine.

Whitney's Wedding Shower in Napa

It is finished and it turned out great. I wore it and it didn't fall apart.
